Saudi Arabia Celebrates Founding Day of King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrates today the Founding Day of King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, which corresponds to the 17th of Jumada al-Ula each Hijri year, commemorating the establishment of the first Saudi state in 1727 AD by Imam Mohammed bin Saud bin Mohammed bin Muqrin.
In this context, Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud said: “Founding Day is a great national occasion during which we recall our rich history and authentic values upon which the Saudi state was founded three centuries ago.”
He added: “We celebrate this occasion to reinforce the values of moderation, tolerance, and altruism that characterized the founder and his loyal men, values we still uphold to this day.”
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had issued a royal decree on January 27, 2022, designating February 22 of each year as “Founding Day” to commemorate the establishment of the Saudi state, making it an official holiday in the Kingdom.
Numerous events and activities are scheduled to mark this occasion across various regions of the Kingdom, including artistic, cultural, and heritage performances, as well as fireworks displays in the skies of the capital Riyadh and several major Saudi cities.
The celebration of “Founding Day” coincides with the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the first Saudi state by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in mid-1727 AD, which formed the nucleus for unifying parts of the Arabian Peninsula under the banner of monotheism and the Saudi state we know today.
