Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi over an Iftar dinner at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Monday evening. The discussions focused on developments in the Middle East and ongoing efforts regarding regional affairs, particularly issues related to the security and stability of the area.
Enhancing Bilateral Relations and Political Consultation
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the close historical bilateral relations between their countries and ways to develop them across various fields. Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized the pivotal nature of the enduring relations between the Kingdom and Egypt, expressing his aspiration to continue strengthening and elevating them to broader horizons in service of both nations’ interests. The two parties agreed to continue and enhance political consultation and coordination to maintain regional stability. They also discussed several regional and international issues of mutual concern, stressing the importance of avoiding escalation and tension in the region, supporting peaceful solutions to crises through dialogue, promoting Arab solidarity to confront challenges, and emphasizing respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
Developments in Gaza and the Humanitarian Situation
The meeting addressed developments in Gaza, with both sides affirming the necessity for all parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement and implement former U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan. They underscored the importance of increasing unimpeded humanitarian aid access to the sector and the urgent need to commence early recovery and reconstruction efforts. Officials noted Saudi-Egyptian alignment on ending the Sudan conflict, with both countries working toward a ceasefire and advocating for inclusive political solutions involving all stakeholders.
High-Level Attendance and Emphasis on Strategic Partnership
Attending from the Saudi side were Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Minister of State and Cabinet Member for National Security Affairs; Dr. Issam bin Saad bin Saeed, Minister of State and Cabinet Member for Shura Council Affairs; and Khalid Al-Humaidan, Head of General Intelligence. Representing Egypt were Major General Ahmed Ali, Head of the Presidential Office; Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Expatriate Affairs; Major General Hassan Rashad, Head of General Intelligence; and Counselor Omar Marwan, Director of the Presidential Office. Egyptian President al-Sisi departed Jeddah on Monday evening, with Prince Mohammed bin Salman seeing him off at King Abdulaziz International Airport. This high-level meeting reflects the depth of strategic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the continuous coordination between both countries on various regional and international issues.
