Geneva Hosts Third Round of Iran-US Talks Amid Escalating Threats and Omani Optimism

Geneva will host the third round of talks between Iran and the United States on Thursday, amid escalating American threats and Tehran’s reaffirmation of its right to respond. Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi confirmed the meeting date while expressing optimism about achieving tangible progress.

The new round of direct negotiations between the two sides will commence next Thursday in the Swiss capital, Geneva. This round continues the bilateral dialogue that is overseen by Omani authorities.

Omani Foreign Minister revealed details of the meeting via the social media platform “X,” confirming that the talks coincide with ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the Sultanate of Oman to bridge the gap between the two parties.

The negotiations are taking place amid escalating American statements about potential military strikes against Iranian facilities. These statements have raised international concern about rising tensions in the region.

In response to American threats, the Islamic Republic has once again affirmed what it described as its “legitimate right to self-defense,” expressing its readiness to respond to any potential aggression.

The Omani minister expressed optimism about the outcomes of the upcoming meeting, noting in his tweet: “I am pleased to confirm that negotiations between the United States and Iran are scheduled for Geneva on Thursday, with a positive intention to take an additional step toward reaching an agreement.”

Despite Omani optimism, analyses indicate the difficulty of achieving a quick breakthrough in the negotiations due to the wide gap in the fundamental demands of each party, particularly regarding the nuclear program and economic sanctions.
